Firequark and the future of SEO with artificial intelligence
Search is being rewritten by generated answers. What still works, what stopped working, and what to do about the traffic you are already losing.
Search results are increasingly an answer rather than a list. That is the single biggest change to the discipline in a decade, and most SEO advice on the internet was written before it happened.
What actually changed
Two things. First, a growing share of queries are answered on the results page, so the click never happens even when your content was the source. Second, an increasing number of people start at a chat interface instead of a search box, which means being retrievable matters as much as ranking.
What did not change is the foundation. A model that summarises the web is still reading the web. Sites that are fast, crawlable, well-structured and unambiguous get read accurately. Sites that are none of those things get misread or skipped, exactly as before.
The technical foundation still decides everything
Before any content strategy, get these right, because no amount of writing rescues a site a crawler struggles with:
- Speed. Core Web Vitals remain a ranking input and a conversion input. The second one matters more.
- Server-rendered content. If your content only exists after JavaScript executes, you are gambling on someone else's rendering budget.
- Clean information architecture. One URL per thing, canonical tags that are correct, and internal links that describe what they point at.
- Structured data. Schema.org markup is how you tell a machine what a page is rather than making it guess.
- Sitemaps and redirects. Migrations that lose URLs lose rankings, and that is entirely avoidable.
Write for entities, not just keywords
Systems that generate answers work with entities and relationships. Being consistently and unambiguously described — who you are, where you operate, what you do, who says so — matters more than keyword density ever did. Consistency across your site, your structured data and third-party listings is doing work that used to be done by repetition.
Depth beats volume, decisively
Thin content aimed at a keyword was already a poor investment. Now it is worse than useless: it competes with a generated summary that is faster and more convenient. What survives is material that a summary cannot replace — original data, real case detail, specific opinions and firsthand experience.
Measure differently
If you only track sessions, you will misread the next two years. Track:
- Impressions and average position alongside clicks, so you can see visibility without a click.
- Branded search volume, which is the clearest signal that people saw you somewhere you cannot instrument.
- Assisted conversions, because organic increasingly starts a journey it does not finish.
- Whether your pages appear as sources in AI answers for your core queries — check manually and regularly.
What we do about it
We build the technical foundation as part of every site: semantic markup, structured data, performance budgets, sitemaps and correct redirects. That is included, not an upsell. Beyond that, ongoing content and authority work is a separate engagement, because it is a monthly discipline rather than a project.
The uncomfortable summary is that SEO is becoming less of a trick and more of a consequence. Be genuinely useful, be technically clean, be unambiguous about who you are — and be patient, because that combination compounds slowly and then all at once.
